PolyLite™ ASA is an alternative to ABS with improved weather resistance. Its UV resistance and excellent mechanical properties make it the perfect choice for outdoor applications. PolyLite™ ASA has the same mechanical and thermal properties as PolyLite™ ABS, but with the ability to withstand sunlight (UV) and general weathering. Its good weather resistance makes it ideal for parts that need to withstand wind and weather.

Print requirements

  • Enclosure that can trap ambient air and keep it warm

  • All-metal hotend capable of reaching 250˚C+ is recommended but not required

  • That's all! You can use Magigoo Original to improve adhesion to the build plate

If you are using an older standard printer, we recommend printing slower.

FAQ - PolyLite™ ASA

What is the difference between ASA and ABS?

ASA is almost the same as ABS with one major and one minor difference:

  • The big difference: ASA is extremely weather-resistant (resistant to UV light and environmental stress cracking).

  • The minor difference: ASA provides a nicer, matte surface that easily hides layer lines.

Do you have test results for UV resistance with ASA?

Natural and accelerated aging tests have been performed to investigate the relationship between color and mechanical properties in ASA materials as well as the duration of aging and the weather resistance of the material.

After two years of natural aging, the ASA substrate showed a slight color change with a color change value (ΔE) below 2.5.
In the accelerated aging test, the ASA material showed a ΔE value below 5 and minimal loss of tensile strength – even after exposure to 8000 kJ/m² irradiation – which is better than ABS.

The experimental results confirm that components exposed to outdoor weather (sunlight, rain, temperature fluctuations) maintain their integrity for at least two years.

Can PolyLite™ ASA be post-treated with acetone?

Yes, PolyLite™ ASA can be smoothed with acetone.
⚠️ WARNING: Acetone is a dangerous chemical - always handle it with the necessary safety precautions.

We recommend PolySmooth™ as a safer alternative to achieve smooth surface models.

Do the coils work in an AMS system?

Yes! We have redesigned the edge of our spools so that all Polymaker products now rotate smoothly in AMS.

Is the material food-safe?

Unfortunately, we have no data confirming whether this material is food-safe.
Currently, there are no 3D printing materials on the market that are FDA-approved for food contact.

This is because it is the finished object that needs to be certified – not the base material. Factors such as shape, build plate, production environment, etc. come into play. Therefore, there is no real food certification from the FDA for 3D printing.

Do you sell refills?

We're sorry, but Polymaker does not sell refills at this time.
