Silk PLA+ is a type of PLA+ filament made of polylactic acid that has a slight sheen, reminiscent of silk fabric. It differs from glossy and matte PLA by having an intermediate level of reflectivity. The terms gloss, silk, and matte come from paint, which indicate different degrees of light reflection.

SUNLU Silk Filament
Silk is formulated with additives that provide a subtle sheen without appearing overly glossy. Many PLAs contain various modifiers to achieve ideal print properties or aesthetics. In silk PLA+, the additives create the characteristic silk-like sheen. While mica is a common additive for shine in paints, most silk PLA+s use a small amount of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) to achieve the desired effect.
Since silk PLA+ is a polymer mixed with special additives, the optimal settings depend on the specific material, brand, and color. It takes fine-tuning to achieve the best results with each silk PLA+ formulation. When printing silk PLA+, the print temperature is slightly higher than with regular PLA.
