Get filament stuck to your PEI sheet

Keeping your PEI plate clean is essential to ensure that your prints adhere properly and to extend the life of your plate. A clean plate means fewer errors and better results. Here is a simple and straightforward guide on how to clean your PEI plate. You can use this procedure for all types of FDM 3D printers.

If you don't like reading, you can also watch the guide on Youtube.

How to clean your PEI 3D printer plate

  1. Preparation :

    • Find a mild sulfur dissolved in water, hand soap or isopropyl alcohol (household alcohol)
    • Have paper or a sponge ready.

When using sulfur or hand soap:

  1. Wash the plate

    • Apply a small amount of soap to the paper or sponge.
    • Wash the entire PEI sheet thoroughly. Make sure to cover the entire surface.
  2. Rinse with water

    • Rinse the plate with water to remove the soap.
    • Repeat washing and rinsing 1-2 times to ensure the plate is completely clean.
  3. Final rinse :

    • Rinse the plate thoroughly with plenty of water to remove all soap residue.
  4. Drying :

    • Let the plate air dry, or dry it with a clean piece of paper.

When using isopropyl alcohol :

  1. Wash the plate

  • Pour a little alcohol on a piece of paper towel and wipe the surface of the PEI sheet while it is cold and let the alcohol evaporate. Repeat 2-3 times.

And that’s it! Your PEI plate is now clean and ready to use. Remember to repeat this process regularly to keep your printer in tip-top shape. It’s good practice to never put your fingers on the plate, as the oil from your skin will settle on the plate and can create a hotspot where the filament won’t adhere. It doesn’t take much for things to go wrong. We usually wash our plates once a month, but it doesn’t hurt to do it more often.

Happy printing 🎉
