Bambu ASA Aero

Bambu ASA Aero is a self-foaming material known for its exceptional durability and robustness. The heat-sensitive foaming allows for controlling the model's density, resulting in extremely lightweight printed models. Additionally, the material offers excellent resistance to temperature, water, and UV rays. With these unique properties, it is ideal for printing long-lasting outdoor models and weight-sensitive projects such as RC aircraft.

Impact Strength and Built to Last

Compared to other foaming filaments, ASA Aero is more robust with higher layer strength, making it more resistant to impacts, collisions, and drops. This makes it perfect for demanding high-load applications.

Property Bambu ASA Aero Bambu PLA Aero Wood PLA
Toughness (Impact Strength – XY) 32.0 kJ/m² 24.5 kJ/m² 7.9 kJ/m²
Layer Adhesion (Impact Strength – Z, dry state) 3.4 kJ/m² 2.5 kJ/m² 1.1 kJ/m²
Layer Strength (Flexural Strength – Z) 24 MPa 15 MPa 15 MPa

Ultra-Low Weight, Controllable Density

At only 50–75% of the density of regular ASA prints, ASA Aero is featherlight and designed for weight-sensitive objects such as RC planes and UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles). Thanks to its controllable foaming, ASA Aero can achieve lower densities in prints by increasing the print temperature or decreasing the flow rate.

Factors Affecting Average Print Density

The average density of prints varies depending on changes in parameters such as actual print temperature, flow rate ratio, print speed, model size, wall thickness, and infill density.

Parameter Settings and Their Effect on Average Density

Parameter Parameter Increase Effect on Average Density
Print Temperature Increases ↗ Decreases ↘
Print Speed Increases ↗ Stable or Increases ↗
Flow Rate Ratio Increases ↗ Increases ↗
Model Size Increases ↗ Decreases ↘
Wall Thickness (wall loops) Increases ↗ Increases ↗
Infill Density Increases ↗ Increases ↗

Relationship Between Maximum Foaming Ratio, Minimum Print Density, and Print Temperature for ASA Aero

Print Temperature Minimum Flow Rate Ratio Max. Volumetric Expansion Rate Max. Foaming Ratio Minimum Print Density
220 °C ~ 0.93 ~ 100% ~ 0% ~ 0.97 g/cm³
230 °C 0.90 106% 6% 0.92 g/cm³
240 °C 0.74 128% 28% 0.78 g/cm³
250 °C 0.60 158% 58% 0.61 g/cm³
260 °C 0.51 186% 86% 0.52 g/cm³
270 °C 0.45 211% 111% 0.46 g/cm³
280 °C 0.44 216% 116% 0.45 g/cm³

Test Conditions for Measurement Units

  • Nozzle Type: 0.4 mm

  • Print Speed: 80 mm/s

  • Model Size (L×W×H): 80 × 10 × 4 mm³ (in XY direction)

The actual required flow rate and final model density may vary depending on the model.

Ready for Harsh Environments and Outdoor Use

Compared to PLA Aero, ASA Aero's significantly better resistance to temperature, water, and UV radiation makes it ideal for long-lasting outdoor use and harsh environments.

Filament Type and Heat Deflection Temperature

Filament Type Bambu PLA Aero Bambu PLA Basic Bambu ASA Aero Bambu ASA
Heat Deflection Temperature / °C (0.45 MPa) 53 °C 57 °C 85 °C 100 °C

Matte Surface – Easy to Color

Bambu ASA Aero has a matte surface texture, which is easy to color and provides better color results compared to regular ASA.

Print Tips

  • Foaming ASA materials (ASA Aero) have high requirements for material drying and parameters. Please read the ASA Aero Printing Guide thoroughly before starting the printing process.

  • Drying conditions: 80 °C for 8 hours. ASA Aero is highly sensitive to moisture. For optimal print quality, additional drying is recommended both before use and after storage. For more details, see: Filament Drying Recommendations on the WIKI.

  • To minimize warping, avoid printing large models with high infill density. Use enclosed printers and ensure the build plate has proper glue application for better adhesion. Set a lower print speed and higher heated bed temperature. For more details, see: Common print quality problems and solutions on the WIKI.

  • Strong and unpleasant odors may be released during printing. Ensure the printer is in a well-ventilated area and use enclosed printers.
