POM Filament (Polyoxymethylene) – High strength and abrasion resistance

POM , also known as acetal or Delrin® , is an engineering plastic material with outstanding mechanical properties. It is often used in industry for precision components where strength, low friction and dimensional stability are essential.

Features:

  • Very durable – ideal for gears, bearings, slide rails and other moving parts.
  • Low coefficient of friction – provides smooth movement without the need for much lubrication.
  • High dimensional stability – minimal deformation under load.
  • Chemical resistant – resists many solvents, fuels and oil.
  • High strength and toughness – withstands impact and mechanical stress.

Print properties:

  • Print temperature: approx. 220–250 °C
  • Bed temperature: 90–120 °C (use glue stick or special adhesive for better adhesion)
  • Printer requirements: Direct drive extruder recommended, closed chamber is a requirement.
  • Difficulty: Extremely advanced – POM is known for poor layer adhesion and tendency to warp.

Important to know:

  • POM is highly crystalline , which provides good mechanical properties, but also challenges during 3D printing.

The material can emit formaldehyde vapors at too high a temperature - therefore good ventilation is recommended during use.
